COURSE OUTLINE
CSI Literacy Goal: Students and teachers will develop their critical thinking skills.
Career Development 10 is course that provides students with an opportunity to explore their strengths, weaknesses, skills and abilities. They also explore career opportunities and how they fit with what they learned in their personal discovery. Workplace health and safety, skill development and financial management are all key elements of this course. The whole course is tied together through a life/work portfolio where students compile artifacts and documents to demonstrate the skills and abilities that they have.

Personal Development
Students will be expected to

Students will be expected to
4.1 make life/work decisions that balance values, financial realities, and media influences
4.2 demonstrate strategies for managing money in life and work
4.3 demonstrate understanding of consumer rights, responsibilities, and issues
Life/Work Portfolio
Students will be expected to
5.1 include artifacts to demonstrate growth in knowledge and skills
5.2 include items that illustrate their interests and abilities
5.3 reflect on their work to articulate a career plan
5.4 communicate their career plans

- If you know you will be absent for a class, you must inform me ASAP, as all assignments/tests or quizzes will be due BEFORE you leave for a vacation!
Mark Breakdown
The term mark will be made up of the following categories
Unit 1: Personal Development 20%
Unit 2: Career Awareness 30%
Unit 3: Workplace Readiness 25%
Unit 4: Financial Management 25%
The portfolio will include elements of all of these units and make up a portion of the mark in each of them
The exam will be a 20% process exam covering a wide range of activities and topics that accurately reflect the outcomes.
Daily Materials for Class
· A binder
· A 1 or 1.5 inch non zip up binder that will be used as a portfolio. If you can get one with a plastic cover that allows for a sheet to be slid on the outside front that would be best
· Lots of loose leaf
· Pens/pencils
· A USB memory stick/thumb drive
· A few (3-5) different color highlighters
· School network ID
· An agenda
· Student webmail account
Student Assessment and Evaluation:
This course will involve multiple modes of instruction and assessment. To ensure every student has the opportunity to learn and attain the above outcomes, students will be provided with various learning and assessment alternatives throughout the semester. The students do have one second opportunity for summative assessments with a discussion between student and teacher to arrange the time and method of assessment. If the student does not take advantage of this, or misses the mutually agreed upon time, the student will be awarded the original mark.
Work completed during the term accounts for 80% of the final grade for the course, with the final examination accounting for the remaining 20%.
Grades viewable in PowerSchool and issued on midterm reports represent in progress grades only and will change frequently.

- Use of cell phones during instructional time is prohibited. They will be taken away and brought to the main office.
- Be on time for class! Half of success is just being there. Lateness/Absences will result in disciplinary action. You are also responsible for any work missed while absent.
- Food is prohibited in the classroom unless otherwise indicated. Bottled water is permitted.
- Respect each other, the teacher, yourself and your class environment.
- Due dates are not optional. You are expected to adhere to them and if you do not you will be required to make up the assignment at lunch hour.
